A leading technology-driven trading firm is seeking a Senior Horizon Platform Engineer to take ownership of a critical virtual desktop infrastructure supporting business-critical operations across trading, research, and technology functions.
This is a hands-on engineering position focused on building and operating a highly available, secure, and performance-optimised Horizon environment. The platform supports demanding users operating in a fast-paced electronic trading environment where reliability, scalability, and user experience are essential.
Beyond day-to-day platform management, the role offers the opportunity to drive automation, improve operational efficiency, enhance platform resilience, and influence the future direction of a globally utilised virtual desktop estate.
This is a specialist Horizon engineering role, not a traditional desktop support or general workplace technology position.
Your Impact
- Engineer, maintain, and optimise enterprise-scale Omnissa Horizon (VMware Horizon) environments
- Design and operate highly available VDI platforms with strict uptime and performance requirements
- Build, manage, and optimise golden images for demanding user workloads
- Administer and enhance DEM, FSLogix, and App Volumes environments
- Lead platform upgrades, lifecycle management initiatives, and infrastructure improvements
- Automate deployment, configuration, and operational processes using PowerShell and infrastructure-as-code principles
- Monitor and optimise platform performance across compute, storage, networking, and GPU resources
- Troubleshoot complex issues spanning Horizon, Windows, virtualization, authentication, storage, and networking technologies
- Partner with infrastructure, networking, security, and platform teams on cross-functional initiatives
- Drive endpoint hardening, patch management, and security compliance standards
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement long-term platform improvements
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, operational runbooks, and engineering standards
What You’ll Bring
- 5+ years of VMware Horizon engineering experience within enterprise environments
- Strong expertise across Horizon, vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter
- Experience supporting Windows 10 and Windows 11 enterprise environments
- Strong PowerShell scripting and automation capabilities
- Solid understanding of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, certificates, and authentication technologies
- Experience with DEM, FSLogix, App Volumes, or similar profile management solutions
- Advanced troubleshooting skills across virtualization, operating systems, networking, and storage layers
- Experience operating within highly available, performance-sensitive environments
- A proactive mindset focused on automation, platform improvement, and operational excellence
Preferred Experience
- VMware certifications such as VCP-DTM or VCP-DCV
- Experience supporting GPU-enabled VDI environments
- Familiarity with ControlUp, vRealize Operations, or similar monitoring platforms
- Experience within high-frequency trading, financial services, or other performance-critical environments
- Exposure to hybrid cloud architectures or zero-trust security frameworks
